Baby’s first Christmas is magical — even though they won’t remember it. But the traditions you start now will carry on for years. Here are ones worth beginning.
Annual Ornament
Buy or make a special Christmas ornament each year. By the time they’re 18, they’ll have a full tree of memories. Date each one. Handprint ornaments are perfect for the early years.
Christmas Eve Box
A box opened on Christmas Eve containing new pyjamas, a Christmas book, a hot chocolate sachet (for older children), and a reindeer treat. The box becomes part of the tradition.
Photo Tradition
- Same photo position by the tree each year.
- Photo with Santa — the progression from screaming baby to confident child is priceless.
- Christmas morning chaos photo — wrapping paper everywhere, joy on faces.
Letter to Baby
Write a letter to your child each Christmas describing what they were like that year, what they loved, and what made you proud. Seal in an envelope. Give them all the letters on their 18th Christmas.
