Every year on your child’s birthday, write them a letter. Describe who they are right now: what they love, what makes them laugh, what they’re learning, what you admire about them.
What to Write
- What they’ve been like this year.
- Their favourite things: food, toy, song, person, game.
- A funny story from the past year.
- What you’re proud of.
- A wish for the year ahead.
How to Store Them
- Sealed envelopes: Dated and stored in a box. Resist the urge to re-read them.
- A journal: One entry per year in a beautiful hardback journal.
- Digital backup: Photograph or scan each letter for safety.
The Big Reveal
On their 18th birthday, give them the box. 18 letters from the person who loved them most, documenting every year of their childhood. There is no more powerful gift.
