A height chart on the wall is one of the simplest and most powerful keepsakes for growing families. Every mark tells a story.
Types of Height Charts
- Wall-mounted ruler: Wooden or canvas ruler that hangs on the wall. Removable when you move house.
- Sticker chart: A wall decal with measurement markings. Decorative and functional.
- Door frame marks: The traditional approach — pencil marks on the door frame. Charming but not portable.
How to Measure
- Shoes off, back against the wall, eyes level.
- Use a flat object (book or ruler) on top of the head to mark accurately.
- Record name, date, and age with each measurement.
- Measure at the same time each year — birthdays or New Year work well.
If You Move House
Photograph the door frame before you leave. If it’s a wall-mounted chart, take it with you. If pencil marks on a frame, some families remove the door frame trim to keep the marks. Extreme? Perhaps. Worth it? Absolutely.
